Post Extraction
On The Day Of The Extraction
- Keep biting on gauze pad for 45 minutes.
- Strictly NO smoking for 24 hours.
- Avoid Alcohol.
- Rest for a few hours following treatment and avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
- Do not rinse for at least 24 hours. Rinsing can dislodge the blood clot. After 24 hours rinse mouth gently after meals and before bed using ½ teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Hold the solution in your mouth for several minutes, discard and repeat 2-3 times. Do not spit with too much force.
- Avoid hot fluids and hard or chewy foods.
- Avoid sucking at or interfering with the wound.
- Should slight bleeding occur, sit upright with head and shoulders raised. Apply pressure using a small pad of gauze clamped firmly between the jaws for 30 minutes. Repeat if necessary.
- For pain relief take Panadol, Panadeine or Nurofen. Avoid Aspirin as this may increase bleeding.
- If excessive bleeding, undue pain or other symptoms occur, please contact the surgery immediately on (08) 8278 8611
